Indian cricket star Shreyas Iyer suffered a lacerated spleen and was admitted to a Sydney hospital following an awkward fall while taking a catch during the final ODI match versus Australia, according to cricket authorities.
The 30-year-old sustained the injury on match day while fielding to remove Alex Carey, with Iyer holding his abdomen and grimacing in pain after falling onto the Sydney Cricket Ground field.
Scans have revealed a laceration injury to the abdominal organ. He is under medical care, medically stable, and recovering well.
Following immediate medical attention, the batter did not return in the game, which India secured victory by a significant margin. Australia had previously secured the series with earlier victories in the initial games played in Western and South Australian cities.
The situation was reportedly "life threatening at that moment," according to news sources.
The medical representative will remain in Sydney with Shreyas to assess his day-to-day progress and guarantee proper healing from the serious medical condition.
India's upcoming matches include a five-match Twenty20 series versus Australia, starting in Canberra on midweek. Iyer is not included in the T20 squad due to his ongoing recovery.
